Computers II: Graphic Design


The entire class will work collaboratively to complete one final project. The learning portion of the course will require everyone to work on the same product, a movie poster using their own interpretation. The skills acquired from this endeavor will then be transferred to other projects that will allow the students to greater hone and refine their skills in Periodicals, Advertising, Corporate Designs and other types of media.

Outside of the classroom you will be required to gather images and stock photography to use in your designs when we convene in the classroom. The course will also offer opportunities to discuss successes and failures across the board so that we may learn from each other.

Course Objectives

 

1. Introduction to Graphic Communications.

2. List the elements, principles, & attributes of design.

3. Identify the types of layouts.

4. Measure linear dimensions for printing materials in inches & fractions of inches

5. Measure type in points and line length in picas.

6. Understand digital rights and management.

7. Demonstrate knowledge of how to use color to set a mood or convey an idea.

8. Demonstrate your knowledge and skills in the area of design.

9. Demonstrate your knowledge and skills in the area of image generation.

10. Measure original images for reduction and enlargement using various methods to determine the percentage for final reproduction.

11. Design a “Personal Logo” using industry standard software such as Adobe Illustrator.

12. Using industry standard software such as Adobe InDesign, the student will design a set of business cards, a memo pad, and stationary incorporating a common theme.

13. Using the proper skills and tools the student will print the set of business cards, memo pad, and stationary designed previously.
