As a faculty member of the Department of Physical Education my objective is to promote a physically active lifestyle in conjunction with a healthy and nutritious diet. At Salesian we understand how important nutrition is for our students therefore all students taking Physical Education are required to maintain a daily food journal to help bring awareness of caloric intake and quality of foods. Students are also taught how to identify nutrient dense foods and those poor in nturitional benefits to help them make educated decisions about their daily food intake. Since safety in the weightroom and while exercising is of prime importance prior to participating in a physical activity all students are taught proper exercise technique and safety guidelines. A general overview of anatomy is introduced by Head Strength Coach Damien Orozco to help our students understand the positive impact of exercise on the human body. We encourage our students to seek a higher education as well as becoming actively involved in our various school sports programs. Students of Physical Education are also taught athletic specific lifts and exercise techniques such as Olympic Weightlifting and plyometrics. Students are encouraged to perform at top levels and work together as a team to help build a strong self-esteem and a positive self-image. Education on self-awareness and drug prevention are taught by Coach Jackson of the Salesian Mustangs Football team. In summary the Physical Education Department understands that by combining all of these goals into our curriculum we can help to promote a physically active and healthy lifestyle in our young generation, build great character, discipline, responsibility, goal setting, ingrain strong moral and spiritual values, establish leadership, pride in teamwork, and self-sacrifice to benefit all students and the community. Please feel free to browse through this website and download any handouts, pictures and videos to help improve your own health and your family's health! Your child's health starts here at Salesian!
