Textbook: NEFE
High School Financial Planning Program Workbook
Supplies:PENCILS, Pens, paper, calculator, and
math folder
Course Description:Business Math integrates basic level math skills with
the study of consumerism. The students will engage in real-life applications of
computational skills using fractions, decimals, percents, basic equations, and
multi-step problems.The problems relate
to such things as figuring income, paying taxes, making major purchases,
balancing a checkbook, managing a budget, and investing.
Expectations:This class is oriented towards
the older student because it deals with financial issues that adults face in
real life.Students are expected to read
the text, take notes, do homework, actively participate in labs, write
explanations, complete projects, take quizzes, tests, and a comprehensive
final.Students are expected to make
appointments for extra tutoring when needed and to also inquire about
grades.Students are required to provide
their own calculator.
Homework:Homework will be assigned and evaluated
daily. You will receive full credit for
the assignment if you complete it entirely and show ALL work.A list of only answers is not
sufficient!You will receive no credit
if the assignment is only partially complete or no work is shown. All homework must be done in pencil.
Late Work:I will accept late homework within one day of
when it was due as long as it is completely done and all work is shown, but
points will be deducted from your grade. It will be your responsibility to stay and get the paper
evaluated/graded on your own time.
Absent Work: Missing a day in this class
will likely affect your grade even if you make up your work because you will
miss everything we discussed that day.It will be very important that you find a friend to explain what was
missed in class if you happen to miss one. You will have one day for every day
you miss to make up any missed work.If
you miss a test I will expect you to make plans to take the test on the day
that you return.
Group Work and Partners: You will be
working with other students on assignments and projects many times.I expect every person in each group to do his
part.When possible individual grades
will be given to ensure that every group member is working. If you cannot handle working in a group you
will be removed from your group and expected to do the assignment or projects
on your own.
Tests and Quizzes:Tests will be given at the end
of each unit.Quizzes, planned or
unplanned, may be given any day.
Math Folder:I require you to keep a folder containing all
of your homework papers and work that we do.It will be collected at random times. You will be expected to keep it organized with all new and past
assignments.This notebook will also
consist of your daily notes.
Grade:Your grade will be figured based upon the
number of points you have earned out of the total possible. For example, you earned 325 points out of
400.Then you would receive an 81%=B-.
Tracking Grades :Students will receive grades for
each daily homework and quizzes.They
will be required to record these grades on their grade tracking sheets. This will allow the student and the parents
to check the student’s grade at any time throughout the year. When we take unit tests the student will be
required to record these points along with the other grades to give the student
a total grade point value.
