History

Since opening its doors in the fall of 1958, Bishop Mora Salesian High School has stood as a beacon of faith, education, and opportunity in the heart of Boyle Heights. Founded by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and entrusted to the Salesians of Don Bosco, the school was established to provide young men with an education rooted in the Catholic faith and the educational philosophy of St. John Bosco. Guided by the Salesian Preventive System of reason, religion, and loving-kindness, Salesian has remained committed to forming young men of character, leadership, and service while creating a community that is truly a "Home, a School, a Church, and a Playground". For nearly seven decades, the school has faithfully served generations of families from Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, and communities throughout Southern California, preparing students for success in college, careers, and beyond.

Today, Salesian High School proudly combines its rich tradition with a bold vision for the future. Building upon previous investments that transformed the Salesian campus, the school has recently completed one of the most significant projects in its history to upgrade existing facilities to create an inspiring environment worthy of the young men it serves. These improvements reflect the generosity of dedicated benefactors and alumni who believe deeply in the school’s mission and are investing in the next generation of Salesian students.

While the campus continues to evolve and student programs grow, the mission remains unchanged.
