Job Announcement - High School Principal


Bishop Mora Salesian High School, a Catholic, all-boys, college preparatory high school in Boyle Heights, is accepting applications for the position of principal for the 2018-19 school year.  Bishop Mora Salesian High School will be transitioning to the president-principal leadership model beginning in the 2018-19 school year.  With the appointment of the current principal to the position of president, a principal will be hired to lead the academic and co-curricular growth of the school programming while maintaining daily operations at optimal levels.  


Reporting to the president and the Department of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Principal leads the faculty and staff in their ongoing efforts to provide a school community that combines the experience of church, school, playground and home in a supportive environment according to St. John Bosco’s educational philosophy of reason, religion, and loving kindness. The principal is the chief educational leader of the school and is ultimately responsible for all aspects of the school’s daily operation, with particular emphasis on student academic progress and faculty professional development and accountability.  The start date for the principal is July 1, 2018

Minimum Qualifications:

* Knowledgeable and practicing Catholic with a thorough understanding of Catholic school philosophy

* Commitment to modeling the values of Catholic educational leadership

* Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or related field OR California Administrative Services Credential

* Three years of successful school administrative experience


Preferred Qualifications (in addition to the minimum qualifications listed above):

* California Teaching Credential (Single Subject)

* Master’s Degree in Educational Administration

* Five years of successful administrative experience in a Catholic high school


Desirable Leadership Characteristics:   

* Experience in instructional leadership, curriculum development, teacher supervision, and effective instruction

* Collaborative leadership style with good interpersonal and team-building skills

* Excellent oral and written communication and motivational skills

* Intellectual, organizational, and managerial skills with an ability to lead others in long-term planning

* Attitudes characterized by creativity, initiative, and optimism

* Knowledge and application of instructional technology

* Ability to effectively represent the school and the Church
