The Mariachi Conservatory was established in January 2007 by Richard Mata and his wife, Esperanza Juarez.  Their efforts have been captured in a short documentary Directed by Lindsey Villareal from the University of Southern California.

The Mariachi Conservatory (TMC) is a mariachi program aimed at teaching the art form of mariachi music to children and adults and is a community-based program.  TMC is located in the Boyle Heights area and is currently holding classes at Salesian High School, 960 South Soto St., Los Angeles, CA 90023. The Students have been privileged to perform at the Historical La Fonda Restaurant, the 18th Annual Mariachi Festival held at the Mariachi Plaza, and Mariachi USA's pre-showcase held at the Hollywood Bowl. The Mission of The Mariachi Conservatory is to allow students to learn the art form of mariachi music and develop an academic mariachi program.  Ultimately TMC will strive to advocate mariachi music education and permit its inclusion as a music discipline in the educational arena.
