Book Review Powerpoint Project:


For your final exam you will make a book review PowerPoint google slide analyzing and breaking down one book we read in class this year. You can pick Moon Knight, Animal Farm, or any books we read earlier in the school year. If you have your own book you would like to use you first need to let me know to get approval to use the book! 


Your PowerPoint should be anywhere from 13-15 slides. You can only use extra credit for your final exam if yo have turned in all previous work prior to next week on Tuesday. Follow the guide below in how your slides should be. Each slide should have a decent amount of content but do not plagiarize and copy stuff online. If you are using something online you must cite it properly in MLA with the URL link as well. If you cheat on the final you will have to repeat 9th grade composition again. Cheating will not be tolerated for the final. 


Slide 1: Introduction slide, name the book ,author, year the book was released, and brief 1-2 introduction sentences on what the book is about. 


Slide 2-4: In-depth summary. Follow the rubric under standards procedures. Your summary should include author's purpose and audience, how author makes their point, evaluation of the book (use one of two quotes), and issues raised by the book. 


Slide-5-9: Elements of literature slide: Pick three of the following: Character, plot, theme, style, or setting and break it down in an in-depth analysis. You must use at least 3 or more quotes in this section. 


Slide 10-12- Hero's Journey analysis: Discuss how the book uses the hero journey process. If it does not tell me why you think it did not and how that worked for the book. 


Slide 13-15: Closing Critique: Give your concluding thoughts and analysis of the book, would you recommend it and what did it teach you about life. 


You can use images and add color to your slides but you must have complete sentences and grammar.

You will pick one of the following two choices for your music project! You only have to pick one!
Write a song
You will write your own song for the project. The song can be any genre, you can include just the lyrics or you can also include background music or even turn in a recording of your song. For those who add a recording of their song or perform it live in class will get extra credit of their choice. Your song should include one or more verses and a refrain. The lyrics should be 1- 2pages. You can cover any topic or themes but keep it appropriate. Once you have written your song, you need to write a 2-3 paragraph response reflecting on the song you wrote. You should include in your reflection why did you write your song? What did it mean to you? What is the backstory of the song? What is a theme or two of your song?

You will write a 1-2 page essay double spaced on a song of your choice breaking down the lyrics and analyzing what the song means to you. Provide me the historical background of the song, what year was it made, why did the artist make the song? What did the song mean to the artist? What does the song mean to you? Provide research on both the artist and song? Then provide specific lines of the song and break it down in your own analysis. Tell me what makes the song unique and tell me the meaning of the words and lines used in the song. Your last page will be your own opinion of the song, why did you pick it, do you like the song? What makes you like the song? And provide the song’s themes if you do not earlier in your paper. Tell me what inspires you from the song as well.

3. What is the crime that Baldwin accuses his countrymen of? It is more than simply racism. Look towards the bottom of paragraph two in the first section of the readings.

4. What is Baldwin's overall view of America and of the future? Is it hopeful or despairing?

5. What does Baldwin mean at the end when he says" We cannot be free until they are free."

In 1-2 paragraphs once you finish your test reflect on how you are doing at Salesian in all your classes so far. What achievements are you proud of so far? What ways could you improve? What are your goals to end the semester on a strong note. What are your goals for January-June of next year!

In the last month and a few weeks since you been at Salesian what have you learned about your culture that you did not know before? What are some things you appreciate most about your culture? What do you want to learn more in the next few weeks as you work on your interview for your immigration biography essay? If you did not learn anything new what did you know already about your culture before?

For today's class you will write a 2-3 paragraph on Immigration answer the following prompt. Use your notes, the lecture on the Kennedy reading, and edpuzzles to help you write about immigration. This counts as an essay on Aeries so make sure to reread your work and finish the work by today in class. You have the whole period to finish it.

Why is immigration so crucial to the United States? What makes immigration the foundation of our country? Make sure to have a thesis and put your thesis either in bold words or underline the thesis. Also use evidence whether you research or what you know.

Tell me your plan in 3-4 sentences

For the start of class today you will spend the first 15 mins going around your home/apartment and take down 4-5 things you find that represent your culture. It can be family items, a flag of your family's home nation, food from your country, anything that represents your culture. Then in 4-5 sentences tell me who you want to interview for your immigration essay interview. If you are still thinking about it tell me who you think you might interview or if you will interview your parents. Tell me as well as what is your family's culture.

What was one theme from each chapter? What did each chapter focus on? What was the purpose you feel for these two short stories in the book. Did you like one more than the other? Why? What is the purpose you feel of having these different stories in the Joy Luck Club?

This is the essay we have been working on. Our final copy of it is due next Tuesday! Final draft must be 2 pages or longer, proofread, and have one classmate review your work( we will do this next class on Thursday) No homework passes can be used for final drafts.

Read Half and Half: Rose Hsu Jordan, Two Kinds: Jing-Mei Woo, American translation, Rice Husband: Lena St. Clair, Four Directions: Waverly Jong. After you read the following chapters give me a two paragraph response on reviewing which were 2 chapters from these assigned readings that you like the most. What did you like about the two chapters you selected from this group. What were a theme for each chapter? Describe the characters in the two chapters you pick.

Read the following chapters: The Moon Lady: Ying-Ying St. Clair, The Twenty-Six Maligant Gates, Rlues of the Game: Waverly Jong, The Voices From the Wall: Lena St. Clair. Then write a one paragraph response for each of the assigned chapters telling me what was the theme of the chapter and give evidence from the reading to support your theme.

Read from Feathers From a Thousand LI Away to The Red Candle: Lindo Jong on the book. There are 4 sections you will be reading on there. Read the 4 sections and for each section I want you to pick two specific quotes, cite it like this (Author's last name page number). From there give me an explanation in 1-3 sentences why you picked the quote. Since there are 4 sections that means you need 8 different quotes to find and then explain the quotes in relation to the story and its themes.

Write a one page thank you letter to your parents/family. Make a copy before you turn in to give to your parents/family today when you get home.

Continuing from your work last week now you will write a two page essay on your own personal biography. Must be two pages or more. Remember you can write about any part of your life but it must provide an academic biography that is well written.

Watch a movie, or tv show at home(animes are included). Take notes during the film/show and then when you finish the film write a one paragraph response identifying a theme in the film/show/anime. I want you to give me two specific examples from your choice that supports your theme.

This is going be a warm up activity/early rough draft to a personal narrative you will be writing next week.

In two paragraphs(4-5 sentences) give me a brief biography of your life. You get to decide what of your life you want to focus on. Do you want to focus on challenges you overcame, or your education career. Maybe you want to talk about your sports career or your goals for the future. You must be thoughtful, creative, and give a strong non-fiction narrative about your life. This is only a rough draft and I am using this as a chance for me to see more of your writing, sentence structure, your grammar and your strengths and areas of improvement. Do your best on it this is due today by the end of class.

In a paragraph compare and contrast the two speeches watched on your edpuzzle. What was the theme of each speech? Are the speeches similar? What did you learn from the speeches?
