Major Capital Projects: Completed and In-progress since 2016

Gymnasium Air Conditioning (in progress as of Summer 2024)

Thanks to the generosity of the Dan Murphy Foundation and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Salesian HS gym will be upgraded with air conditioning during the summer of 2024. The improvement will allow for the school to provide a comfortable space for athletic contests as well as larger school community events like parent meetings, student gatherings and events, and major fundraising events like the school's gala.
Main school building painting (Summer 2024)

The main school building was painted during the summer of 2024 to greatly enhance the visibility of the main school structure and emphasize the school's spirited color scheme. The second and third floors now match the main floor colors of the building and a Columbia Blue accent color was selected for the roof structure. The school's name and cross on the roof were refinished in white for greater visibility throughout Boyle Heights.
Once a Mustang Monument (Completed Spring 2024)

In 2013, work began on a monument that would welcome all visitors to the Salesian campus. Renowned sculptor and Salesian alumnus, Dan Medina '86, created the stunning 18' monument which would be installed on the school's plaza level. Aside from bringing the beautiful work of art by Mr. Medina to the Salesian campus, the monument was also envisioned as a way to grow the school's scholarship program, with all donations exceeding the costs of the project, including plaques purchased after the installation date, being used for the school's student scholarship program.

On Friday, May 17, 2024, the Once A Mustang monument was unveiled in front of a large crowd of alumni, families, friends and students.
Weight Room Renovation (Completed Summer 2022)
As the needs of the Salesian High School athletic program and student-athletes continue to grow, the school embarked on a weight room renovation project in 2022. Weights and fitness equipment with the school's branding was purchased and wall wraps were installed featuring current students and recent alumni. All students enrolled at Salesian have access to the weight room, and it is an added perk for all employees at Salesian. The project was funded through the generosity of athletic boosters, coaches, parents, and students.
Faculty Lounge (Completed Fall 2021)
The updated faculty lounge was a supplemental aspect to the Innovation Center project. The new location of the faculty lounge is in its original location from decades ago. This project was funded through the generosity of Shea Family Charities, the John and Cynthia Lee Smet Foundation, and school donors.
Innovation Center (Completed Fall 2021)
The Salesian High School Innovation Center provides our students with the space to explore and present creative ideas to the larger community with an emphasis on enhancing presentation and public speaking skills. The Innovation Center doubled the school's collaborative space footprint on the main floor. The reconfiguration of school's faculty lounge and several storage spaces created a large enough area for the footprint of the Innovation Center. This project was funded through the generosity of Shea Family Charities, the John and Cynthia Lee Smet Foundation, and school donors.
Learning Commons (Completed Spring 2017)
The Learning Commons renovation project was completed in 2017 with the hope of addressing the increased technological and learning needs of current and future students. The school's Learning Commons is an area with increased access to technology and collaborative learning areas that facilitate the learning process for students with help from teachers and peers. Most recently, the Learning Commons is the home of the tutoring efforts for the school's Math Club and the school's expanding E-Sports program. The project was funded through the generosity of Shea Family Charities and school donors.
School Chapel (Completed Spring 2017)
The original chapel in the main quad of the school was relocated in the early 2000s during the construction of the new gymnasium and athletic stadium. Since then, the chapel was located on the 3rd floor of the main school building and open to only students and staff. In 2017, as a part of the Learning Commons renovation project, the school moved the chapel to the main floor to provide greater access to our spiritual space for the entire Salesian community.  Mass is offered daily each morning and is open to all Salesian families. The project was funded through the generosity of the Dan Murphy Foundation, Shea Family Charities, and school donors.
Field Turf Replacement (Completed May 2016)
Following years of heavy use of the original turf field, Salesian High School embarked on a replacement turf field project in 2016. The old turf field was cut into smaller pieces and recycled for use on smaller field projects throughout the city. Problematic areas were leveled and drainage issues were resolved prior to the installation of the new turf. The project was funded through the generosity of Shea Family Charities, alumni, and parent donors.
