Head Soccer Coach Opening

Our Athletics Department is currently seeking a Head Soccer Coach for the 2025-2026 school year. Salesian High School, an all-boys Catholic school in Boyle Heights, is seeking a Head Varsity Soccer Coach for the 2025-26 school year. Our soccer program is recognized as one of the top programs in California, competing in the highly competitive Del Rey League alongside Bishop Amat, Cathedral, La Salle, and St. Pius X-Matthias Academy. With six CIF Divisional Championships and four CIF State Regional titles, Salesian Soccer holds the most state championships of any school in California.

Responsibilities

Coaching & Training:

  • Design and implement training programs that develop technical skills, tactical understanding, and physical fitness.
  • Provide coaching to help players reach their full potential.
  • Create and manage practice and game schedules.
  • Establish a positive and motivating environment that encourages growth, discipline, and teamwork.

Team & Program Development:

  • Create an environment that fosters camaraderie and teamwork.
  • Oversee and support the junior varsity and freshman teams to ensure program continuity.
  • Create and manage the soccer program budget.
  • Assemble an experienced coaching staff who will assist at the varsity level and develop the lower-level programs.
  • Uphold and promote Salesian’s charismatic emphasis on reason, religion, and kindness within the team culture.

Student-Athlete Development:

  • Work collaboratively with the counseling department to monitor student-athlete academic progress.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, instilling values of integrity, respect, and sportsmanship.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure the safety of all players during practices, games, and events.
  • Comply with school, league, and CIF regulations regarding eligibility and conduct.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of five years of coaching experience at the club, high school, or college level.
  • Strong knowledge of soccer techniques, strategies, and game rules.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills for interacting with players, parents, and school administration.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes while fostering a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and travel for competitions.
  • Proficient with email, G-Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive)
  • Must complete and pass a background check.
  • Must complete Virtus, Protecting God's Children, certification

Preferred:

  • Coaching certifications/licenses or relevant training in soccer coaching.
  • Familiarity with the academic and extracurricular balance of student-athletes.
